Central Florida has amazing spots serving big feasts like Kamayan Grill’s Bilao Special, cozy dishes like Nipa Hut’s Laing and Bicol Express, flavorful meals at Zeny's, and quick bites plus Filipino groceries at Phil-Asian Foodmart. Why Filipino Food Tastes So Good — And What Makes It Special

Filipino food has a way of making you take another bite.

It can be savory, sweet, sour, garlicky, spicy, or all of them at once. From adobo and sinigang to lumpia, pancit, and grilled fish, Filipino cooking brings together flavors that are simple but never boring.

And there is a reason the food feels so familiar to many Filipinos.

More Than Just a Meal

Filipino cuisine grew from generations of home cooking and influences from different cultures. That history shows up on the plate.

Garlic, onions, ginger, vinegar, calamansi, coconut, vegetables, seafood, meat, and rice are common parts of Filipino cooking. Put them together in different ways and you get dishes with completely different personalities.

That is what makes Filipino food interesting.

One meal can be rich and comforting. Another can be light and sour. Then there is something crispy on the side—like lumpia—to change the texture.

The Ingredients Matter

Traditional Filipino cooking also makes good use of ingredients that can add nutritional value to a meal.

Malunggay (moringa), leafy vegetables, fish, ginger, garlic, fruits, and other fresh ingredients are found in many Filipino dishes. The benefit isn't that every Filipino dish is automatically healthy—it isn't. Some traditional favorites can also be high in sodium, sugar, or fat.

It's really about the ingredients, portions, and how the food is prepared.

Why We Keep Coming Back

Maybe that's the real secret.

Filipino food isn't trying to be complicated. It is food meant to be shared, remembered, and enjoyed.

A bowl of sinigang can remind someone of home. A plate of adobo can bring back memories of family meals. Even a simple serving of garlic rice can make an ordinary breakfast feel a little better.

That's why Filipino food continues to find new fans—not only among Filipinos, but with people discovering it for the first time.

Good food doesn't always need an explanation. Sometimes, you just need one bite. Read more ..

We Tried Mordisco Steakhouse on International Drive — And the Recommendation Was Right

Sometimes the best restaurants are the ones someone tells you about.

Someone recommended Mordisco Steakhouse on International Drive in Orlando, so we decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did.

From the moment we got there, the place had a nice atmosphere, and the food lived up to what we had been told. Everything we tried was enjoyable, but the octopus appetizer was the one that really stood out to me.

If you like seafood, that's something I'd definitely recommend trying. It was flavorful, nicely prepared, and a great way to start the meal.

The rest of the food was delicious as well, and the experience matched what our friend had described to us. Sometimes that's the best kind of recommendation — someone tells you about a place, you go for yourself, and you find out they were right.

Mordisco brings Venezuelan and Caribbean-inspired flavors to International Drive, making it a nice option when you're looking to try something different around Orlando.

We went because someone recommended it.

Now we're recommending it to you.

Twenty Pho Hour in Kissimmee: A Bowl of Pho Worth Trying

If you enjoy Vietnamese food, Twenty Pho Hour in Kissimmee, Florida, is a place worth putting on your list.

I stopped by to try the food for myself, and the pho was the main reason for the visit. A hot bowl of rice noodles, flavorful broth, meat, fresh herbs, bean sprouts, lime and peppers makes for a simple meal that can be customized to your taste.

And that's what I like about pho. You can keep it mild, add some heat, squeeze in fresh lime, or load it up with herbs and vegetables.

More Than Just Pho

Twenty Pho Hour has more than pho on the menu. Depending on what you're in the mood for, you can find rice bowls, noodles, appetizers, vermicelli dishes, drinks and other Vietnamese-inspired choices.

So even if someone in your group isn't a pho fan, there are other things to try.

The restaurant also has a fun, modern 2D-style interior that gives the place a different look from the typical restaurant. It's definitely worth taking a look around before you start eating.

My Take

What I enjoyed most was the combination of the warm pho, fresh toppings and the casual atmosphere. It felt like a good place to stop for a meal without making the experience complicated.

If you're searching for pho in Kissimmee or looking for a Vietnamese restaurant around Central Florida, Twenty Pho Hour is worth checking out.
